Yes! Everyone Rejoice the messiah has come!

Well, for some…
It has come in the form of a CD. That CD is Circa Survive’s latest release On Letting Go. As 3 or 4 of you guys that check out my site know I’m a huge Circa Fan. Anything Anthony Green does I get overly excited about, but I will try not to let that interfere with my review of their new album.
First off I’d like to say the album artwork is amazing especially with the circular hole booklet (buy the album you’ll know what I’m talking about). If you like this kind of art check the Circa’s Artist at Esao.net, amazing stuff.
Alright, lets get into the album. This album is a solid sophomore release since Juturna. It is evolution from Juturna. This album’s tracks has more of atmospheric/space sound than the last album. I’m going to cover each track briefly. Yes, I know it hard to review each of Circa Survive songs individually because there all great but one must try.
Living Together:
Great first track to let fans know this album different is a good way. The lyrics are great, very odd in a good way. I not sure how Circa comes up with some of them, for example the beginning sentence: “it starts out like a season in reverse”or “he makes it up as it goes and it goes away, to places he can only hide in other peoples minds. Truly inspiring.
In the Morning and Amazing:
This song starts strong and stays there. Good drums and that atmospheric/space sound Circa’s guitars bring. Anthony’s Voice become somewhat hauntingly in a good way towards the end of the songs lyrics: “You are in my dreams half human, half machine, With someone else that I’ve felt and seen. I will not rest, or my consciousness contest- Looking right through the lens”. Awesome.
The Greatest Lie:
This song is very different for Circa. This is a song helps make this album show Circa’s diverse sound and sounds like it pushed Anthony’s voice in a way.
The Difference between Medicine and Poison is in the Dose:
First off, brilliant title. Who ever in Circa thought of that kudos to them. If you ever heard Circa perform this song in the past it was slightly different. If you didn’t heard the old version don’t worry about it. The beginning guitar rift makes me think of floating in space. Good lyrics. In the chorus portion this song was very upbeat, good to hear more of Circa’s new sound.
Mandala:
So what does Mandala mean. I looked it up and it has to do with Oriental art representing the cosmos or a symbol representing the effort to reunify the self. Anyway, the song may have something to do with those definitions. This song is solid. I almost got a kind of happy Circa sense in this, especially in Anthony’s voice.
Travel Hymn:
This is my one of my favorites of the album. Mainly because of the lyrics. It touched me(not in the homosexual way). Again, this is a song the makes this album different. Circa guitars rift bring a very unique sound in this song.
Semi Constructive Criticism:
This is again one of my favs. This song does a 0 to 60 effect. Starts out so strong and climactic. Toward the middle and end I feel it loses some of its momentum. That said I still love this track.
Kicking Your Crosses Down: Starts out kind of mysteriously. Then brings an enlightening sound. Very cool.
On Letting Go:
This song is also touching to me. This song is very nice(not borat nice). Enough said.
Carry Us Away:
Great Atmospheric guitars. Anthony’s voice is spot on. All around great track.
Close Your Eyes to See:
This song is alright to me. Interesting lyrics used:”cause nothing you’ve ever planned on ever turned out the way you planned”. Just wanted to point that out. Solid track.
Your Friends are Gone:
Interesting computer like voice in the beginning. Solid track. Anthony’s voice comes through beautifully.
Conclusion: It always great to see your favorite band kick more ass on their latest album. Circa Survive is phenomenal in this sophomore release. Personally anything Anthony Green voice sings in is a good song. When trying to review each song I found out that it is really difficult. If your fans of Chiodos, Old Saosin (Translating the Name EP), or The Sound of Animals Fighting do yourself a huge favor and buy this album.
So if you guys out there agree with my review, disagree, or think I can’t write worth shit, let me know. I’d love to hear what your guys think.
